Streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar is all set to introduce new plans starting September 1. These plans will give all users access to all content, however, with the varying video quality. This means Disney+ Hotstar VIP will be discontinued. Starting September 1, Disney+ Hotstar will offer three new plans including Mobile at Rs 499 per year, Super at Rs 899 per year, and Premium at Rs 1499 per year.
Now, the streaming service has also introduced a new Manage Devices tool that is aimed at giving users more control over who can watch the shows on the streaming service. Users can access the Manage Devices under the account section which lists the devices that are logged in and are having active sessions. Users can log out from any device that was logged in if the platform after verifying using the one-time password. This is similar to streaming platform Amazon Prime Video’s Device Management Settings. The development was first reported by Only Tech.
The benefits for Disney+ Hotstar Premium users will remain unchanged with the added benefits of being able to view shows on 4 devices with video quality in 4K. Disney+ Hotstar Superusers will get access to 2 devices with video quality restricted in HD. The most basic plan will be priced at Rs 499 and will be restricted to 1 mobile device.
Disney+ Hotstar will thus give its users the benefit to access all content starting from Rs 499. This is similar to what streaming giant Netflix offers to its users. As of now, Netflix offers plans priced at Rs 199, Rs 499, Rs 649, and Rs 799 giving access to two screens for mobile plans and four screens for the rest. However, what Disney Hotstar lacks currently is the profiles sections available on Netflix which can come in handy to users watching shows on a Premium account which allows up to four devices.
As of now, many prepaid, postpaid, and broadband plans give access to Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscriptions. It is to be seen what the streaming service will offer in place of VIP subscription once it is discontinued since the new basic or mobile plan begins at Rs 499, which is Rs 100 costlier and will be restricted to mobile users.
