2. The pop-up window shows the available local
hard disks. Choose the source disk that you would
like to backup and then click on Next.
3. You will then be prompted to select the target
drive to save the image file. The target drive can
be a partition on another local disk or a mapped
drive of a network share. The target drive on the
local disk needs to be in FAT16 or FAT32 format.
To save the image file onto a network share, you
need to first map the network share as a virtual
drive. See Appendix for more information about map
a network share for AYGHOST.
4. You will then need to provide a name for the
image file. You might also choose to compress the
image file. Compression will add extended time to
the imaging process. It’s only recommended
if you have limited space on the target drive. Compression
can reduce the image size up to 50%. You can also
set the image file size. For example, for a 2 GB
system, you might restrict the image file size to
600 MB. AYGHOST will create several 600 MB image
files rather than one single 2 GB image file. You
can archive those 600 MB image files to CDs.
